Best Mattresses for Black Friday
The Advisor Says: The Saatva Classic is the gold standard for lower-back support, strong edges, and customizable luxury. It’s not the softest or most motion-isolating bed out there, but it’s a dependable, bouncy hybrid that consistently impresses our testers with its two coil units.
If you’re after an innerspring mattress, consider the Saatva Classic, which has three firmness levels and two height options. The bed also comes with individually wrapped coils and connected coils in two layers. Together, these materials provide the Saatva Classic mattress with a durable and supportive structure that sports just enough bounce for combo sleepers.
The Advisor Says: We believe that Nectar offers a quality bed backed up by generous policies, and for under $1,000 for a queen (after discounts). If you’re looking for a firmer foam mattress on a budget, the Nectar Classic has you covered.
Nectar’s Original model has premium materials and a consumer-friendly price point, so you get quality and comfort without breaking the bank. My teammate, Sosha, recently tested this bed, which underwent some construction updates. She especially enjoyed how pressure relieving the Nectar was for her as an average-weight sleeper, giving the bed a 5 out of 5 for pressure relief.
The Advisor Says: The Midnight has one of the most impressive score spreads of all the mattresses we’ve reviewed. The best word to describe it is “balanced”: it’s got pressure relief, support, and cooling power in spades, plus a versatile medium-firm feel that tends to satisfy lots of sleepers.
Side sleepers usually struggle with pressure building up in the hips, shoulders, and knees. For this reason, they need a mattress that contours the curves and hugs the body. The Helix Midnight is one such model with layers that work together to prevent pressure buildup for those who prefer sleeping on the side. My teammate, Loren, tested the Helix Midnight and felt that it did a good job of evenly distributing her weight while on her side.
The Advisor Says: The DreamCloud is a pleasantly supportive hybrid that really appealed to the stomach sleepers on our testing team (though it proved itself capable of aligning spines in every position). Its affordable price and couple-friendly features have made it a mainstay of the bed-in-a-box scene.
The DreamCloud Original is a hybrid mattress that offers excellent pressure-relieving capabilities and sufficient support for side sleepers. The bed features high-quality materials that give off a plush and luxurious feel. This bed earned high scores for both pressure relief and support when I tested it, and while comfort looks different for everyone, we consider good pressure relief and support indicative of a comfy bed.
The Advisor Says: Our testers often compare the WinkBed to a luxury hotel mattress, which is no surprise given its handcrafted touches and elegant hybrid design. It’s also one of the most customizable beds out there, with a firmness level for every body type.
Chronic back pain is a serious issue that can keep you from falling and staying asleep. Most people struggling with back pain wake up with discomfort and have trouble going about their day. One of the best ways to avoid this is with a comfortable mattress such as the WinkBeds Original. This hybrid has coils and foams that offer excellent support and comfort to relieve pain and pressure. Loren and I both felt well-supported and cushioned by this bed during our testing.
The Advisor Says: The Nolah Evolution is a team favorite with a highly competitive score spread—our testers gave it at least a 4 out of 5 in every single performance category. It’s definitely a luxury mattress, with the height (and price) to match.
Pressure relief is a major concern for many people, especially those who prefer sleeping on their side. The Nolah Evolution mattress provides pressure relief through its impressive Nolah AirFoamICE™ Cooling Layer. Not only does this proprietary foam aid in pressure relief, but it also focuses on helping the sleeper stay cool all night long. Sosha got to test the Evolution for pressure relief using a pressure map, which picks up if there’s any pressure. Her readings were so positive, she gave it a 5 out of 5 in this category.
The Advisor Says: The Bear Star Hybrid touts an enviable medium-firm feel that should appeal to a swath of mattress shoppers, including couples with different preferences looking to “compromise.” We gave this hybrid perfect scores in pressure relief, support, and motion transfer.
Athletes looking for an efficient way to speed up muscle recovery should focus on getting a quality mattress. The Bear Star Hybrid offers top-tier support and pressure relief, both of which should help with muscle recovery. In fact, Sosha gave the Bear Star perfect scores in each of these categories after recently testing this mattress, adding that she thinks it could be a good choice for those navigating pain.
The Advisor Says: Brooklyn Bedding’s Aurora Luxe features a swath of cooling features in its quality hybrid construction. We recommend this bed for anyone who wants a firmer, luxurious-feeling bed without the high price tag.
Hot sleepers know the struggle of finding a cool spot on the mattress. Overheating while trying to fall asleep can make it hard to get a good night’s sleep, especially if it’s hot outside too. The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe is a good option to prevent overheating and sweating as it offers dynamic cooling for those who sleep hot. It was even cool to the touch when I tested it!
The Advisor Says: Brooklyn Bedding created the Titan Plus to cater to heavier shoppers looking for a bed that truly met their needs, and we believe they’ve delivered. Consider buying the Titan Plus if you’re looking for a comfortably supportive mattress with added benefits like cooling and bounce.
Heavyweight sleepers have unique needs in that they need a mattress that’s going to give them sufficient body support so that they don’t wake up with pain or worsen existing pain. Titan by Brooklyn Bedding aims to address those needs with their lines of mattresses, which includes the Titan Plus.
The Advisor Says: We’re constantly calling this mattress one of the firmest in the online market, and if you don’t believe us, try it for yourself! It offers both a classic firm and extra-firm feel in its flippable design, alongside posture-aligning support. Bonus points for good marks in performance for cooling, bounce, and couples.
If you like to be more atop your mattress than enveloped in it, then you’ve met your match with the Plank Firm. This aptly-named mattress boasts a dual-sided design in which one side has a standard firm feel while the other is extra-firm. For context, we rate firmness on a 1-10 scale, with 10 being the firmest. The Plank is noticeably firmer than the average bed we test, with a 7 out of 10 rating for its Firm side and an 8.5 out of 10 rating for its Extra-Firm side.
The Advisor Says: The Leesa Sapira Chill is a sophisticated hybrid bed that looks and feels classy. We were especially taken with how well it adapted to back and side sleeping. On her back, our tester felt like the Medium model was stable and supportive; on her side, it seemed to soften up to better cushion her shoulders and hips. One caveat, though, is that it’s not as much of a cooling superstar as its name would suggest.
Couples have plenty to consider when shopping for a mattress for two different people, each with their own unique needs and preferences. So ideally, co-sleepers need a bed that performs well in categories most helpful to couples. With this in mind, it was a no-brainer to select the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid as our top mattress for couples on this list.
The Advisor Says: Dare we say the Birch Natural is the bed that comes to mind when we think latex? As the name implies, this bed combines natural components with quality construction, yielding a supportive, luxurious, and eco-friendly mattress.
Latex is kind of like the new guy in town among the mattress types, but more and more people are interested in it because it’s a unique alternative to more standard foam beds that have memory foam or poly foam in them. Often, latex beds are also more eco-friendly, like the Birch Natural. So if you love latex and the planet, this is one to consider.
The Advisor Says: The Emma Hybrid Comfort is Emma’s answer to the affordable hybrid. With well-balanced performance scores, this bed should please a wide variety of budget shoppers, but especially those looking for a lifted, bouncy mattress.
How to Find the Best Black Friday Mattress Sales
Our two best tips to help you save and feel less overwhelmed with all the sales going on:
- Know what you’re looking for
- Research in advance
Even 20 minutes of research can pay off when it comes to finding out store hours, deal terms, or online Black Friday sale hours. To help you, we’ve got plenty of mattress reviews you can read ahead of time, and manufacturers often list their upcoming deals, especially if you’re subscribed to their email newsletter.
Consider Your Black Friday Budget
Whether you’re looking for the best deal possible this Black Friday or if you have a few more dollars to spend, the mattress marketplace is so vast you can easily find something in your price range.
- Looking for the best affordable mattress option? You might try a retailer like Amazon. These can be great beds for kids or guest rooms if you only need to use something part-time or are planning to upgrade in a few years.
- Direct-to-consumer online retailers are another option. This includes the brands we’ve featured above, who tend to provide amazing products at a fraction of the price since they don’t pass along the high overhead cost you’ll get in brick-and-mortar stores.
- However, this might be the perfect time if you have been looking for the right moment to jump into the true luxury bed niche with brands like Tempur-Pedic, Serta, or Sleep Number. Remember – sometimes quality is worth spending a little more, especially during a Black Friday sale. Buying a bed is a long-term investment, and you’ll want to ensure it holds up for the long haul.
Shopping In-Store vs. Online
Some families make a day out of waiting in line for doors to open on Black Friday, oftentimes starting early in the day on Thanksgiving to get the best spot.
But do you want to know a secret?
Sometimes companies start their giant sales a few days in advance (including Black Friday), as they hang the signage touting the deals to prepare for the big day. They just don’t openly advertise it. So, if you have a few minutes before starting the Thanksgiving preparations, slip down to a store like Macy’s, Walmart, JCPenney, and Sears to see if the deals are already on.
But what about those who prefer to avoid the crowds?
In this case, shopping online during Black Friday might be more your speed. You can peruse the mattress listings in the comfort of your pajamas.
The bonus of shopping from home? Generous trial periods from the brands that ship direct-to-consumer, like bed-in-a-box mattress companies. Forget spending hours surrounded by strangers in a cramped showroom and enjoy scrolling through more ads to source the best one.
You may be surprised to find that most companies extend their sales or perks a week in either direction, so keep your eyes peeled and shop when it suits you best. You may just find the Best Mattress of 2024 or a gift for someone else.
So, whether you want to shop in-store or online, you can make the Black Friday bed deal work for you.
Research Your Black Friday Mattress Needs
Whether shopping in-store or online, make sure you’re getting exactly what you need by researching beds that would match your needs and preferences. Below is a quick list of performance features and considerations to remember while you sift through all the mattress sales.

Your Sleeping Position
A surprising amount of people don’t know how important your preferred sleeping position is for choosing the best mattress for a great night’s sleep, whether on Black Friday or any other time of year.
- Are you a side sleeper? If so, you’ll likely need something on either the medium or soft side of the firmness spectrum to promote adequate spine alignment and relieve pressure in the curvier areas of the body. Read up on the best mattresses for side sleepers.
- Are you a stomach sleeper? Those sleeping on their stomach may find they spend the best nights on a firmer, more supportive mattress. A medium or medium-firm bed could also work for this group, but this depends on body weight. See our picks for the best mattresses for stomach sleepers.
- Are you a back sleeper? Most back sleepers will appreciate a medium to medium-firm bed that supports their lower back well but still give them pressure relief in the shoulders. Check out the best beds for back sleepers.
- What about combination sleepers? If you roll around during the night or like to mix it up, a medium or medium-firm mattress may give you the most variety and comfort in different sleeping positions. Additionally, the mattress should have some bounce to it so that it’s easier for you to adjust positions. Peruse the best mattresses for combination sleepers.
Mattress Firmness
The right mattress firmness has a lot to do with your sleeping position, but your body weight is also a factor since heavier sleepers will sink in more than lightweight people. Make sure to look for a blend of both comfort and support.
When we test mattresses, we rate the bed’s firmness on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the firmest. You’ll find that most beds fall between a 5 and 6.5, which is medium to medium-firm. However, some companies make beds in different firmness levels since some folks need beds softer or harder than this.

If you aren’t sure which feel will suit you, you can always shop for a dual-sided mattress and test out two feels in one bed. Take a look at our mattress firmness guide for more advice.

Cooling Capabilities
Are you a hot sleeper? You might find more comfortable rest by choosing a proven cooling mattress this Black Friday.
While some of these beds are cool to the touch, others work to funnel heat away from the surface layers to create a temperature-neutral environment.
From the use of gels to unique constructions (like the open-cell design or strategic layering), manufacturers are finding new and exciting ways to keep their beds nice and cool.

Motion Isolation
Motion isolation is crucial to anyone with partners, children, or pets that climb into bed and move around a lot. Light sleepers know that even the smallest tossing and turning can be disruptive.
While most modern beds try to curb motion transfer, memory foam is often hailed as the top material for this. However, if having a mattress with an innerspring unit is more your style, choosing a hybrid with a pocketed coil design can reduce motion traveling across the bed.
Learn more: What Is Motion Isolation?

Bounce
A bouncy mattress might seem like something only kids would be interested in, but it’s actually a helpful feature for sleepers of all ages. This feature can help keep you from feeling ‘stuck’ in a mattress’s layers. This is going to be most helpful for combination sleepers, people with limited mobility, and sexually active couples.
Beds with innerspring units and latex often provide plenty of bounce because these materials are naturally more buoyant. Conversely, memory foam has a slow-moving feel to it. So if you want memory foam but still crave some bounce, a hybrid is a good compromise here.

Edge Support
If you share your mattress, solid edge support may be at the top of your search list in order to have more usable surface space for sleeping. Even if you like to sit on the edge of the bed while waking up or getting ready in the morning, a strong perimeter can be an exceptional feature for a mattress.
If edge support is a priority, try looking for a reinforced edge design. Sometimes this is accomplished with foam rails or reinforced springs. That said, some brands have sturdy edges without reinforcements. Our reviews should help shed some light on how they perform.

Mattress Sizes
It may seem obvious, but try to decide which size you need before hitting the stores or e-commerce sites for Black Friday.
Are you looking for a twin or twin XL for a new big kid bed? A full for a growing teen? Or a standard queen size? Partners who like some extra room to spread out may opt for a king or California king. There’s something for everyone, even those who need a custom product like an RV mattress for the road warriors among us.
If you’re unsure which size you need, measure your frame or the space you’re looking to put your new bed in to identify the correct dimensions.

Material Type
With so many choices out there, how will you know which type of mattress to choose on Black Friday? Let’s break it down.
- Memory Foam – This material is known for high motion isolation, fantastic pressure relief, and a slower-moving feel. Memory foam works wonders for aches and pains and remains supportive and pressure-relieving.
- Innerspring – Known for its more “traditional” feel, innersprings, or coils, are what most people grew up with. Many companies are putting modern twists on this old favorite, with coil-on-coil designs or layering with a plush pillow top.
- Latex – Growing in popularity for its springy yet comfortable feel, latex often comes zoned for extra pressure relief and support where you need it. It’s considered extremely durable and able to hold up for years. Popular types include Dunlop and Talalay latex mattresses, with natural and organic options available. Read more about latex mattresses.
- Hybrid – The “best of both worlds” is a well-known saying regarding hybrids. Oftentimes, a hybrid mattress is a combination of innersprings with memory foam or latex, but they can include other materials as well, such as poly foam and hyperelastic polymer. The overall focus is on comfort plus support.
Look at Mattress Sale Brands that Fit Your Needs
Once you know what you need from a mattress, search for a brand that will give you that. Whether it’s cooling, a special firmness, or a bed brand that caters to athletic types, the marketing should adequately communicate top needs to their target demographic.
Digging around on the brand’s website in their product, FAQ, and additional reading sections is a great way to find out more. Many online brands also have sustainable initiatives or give to charities. If you are exceptionally eco-conscious, look for organic mattress certifications like GOTS, GREENGUARD Gold, or Eco-Institut.

Check Black Friday Trial, Warranty, and Return Policies
Reputable companies will have this information readily available on their website and in their information booklets. If the terms are not easy to understand, reach out to a support specialist who can clarify the information.
Make sure you know what you’re getting into before handing over your hard-earned cash. No one wants to end up with a sagging mattress that they are stuck with and unable to return.
Black Friday shoppers should be extra cautious, as sometimes deep sales can have fine print that’s more restrictive than usual. However, a good guideline to look for is a minimum 10-year warranty and a 100-night sleep trial.
Remember the Bedding Accessories
Don’t forget – while you update your bedroom, it could be time to update your bedding accessories, such as a set of comfy new pillows or some great bedsheets.
If you’ve been eyeing a new mattress topper, check with a few manufacturers to see how their sales are going and if now is the time to invest. Although, with a brand-new bed, you may not need that new topper or pad.
However, if you are trying to prepare for the holidays and attempting to capitalize on the space in your home, perhaps you are in the market for a great air mattress. With guests in and out this winter season, it might just be a lifesaver to have around.
Frequently Asked Questions About Black Friday Sales
Is Black Friday a good time to buy a mattress?
If you love deep deals and the free shipping that many retailers provide, Black Friday is hands-down one of the best times of the year to buy. Whether as a Christmas gift or a personal purchase, you may not find a deal quite as good as those during this weekend.
Should you buy a mattress on Black Friday or before?
Buying a mattress on Black Friday is a good idea if you’re looking to save some money. Many brands offer excellent deals on Black Friday, making it easy for everyone to find a model that suits their budget. Although Black Friday is technically the day after Thanksgiving, the deals often start as early as a week before, so it’s best to be on the lookout a few days prior to Black Friday.
Is it better to buy a mattress on Black Friday or Cyber Monday?
If you’re interested in an expensive mattress, Black Friday may offer better deals than Cyber Monday. On the other hand, Cyber Monday is often a better time to buy smaller items.
What is the best month to buy mattresses on sale?
The best months to buy a mattress on sale are March and April because this is when new models come in, and the old ones are typically on sale. However, November is also a good time since this is when you can find excellent Black Friday sales.
When is Black Friday 2024?
Black Friday 2024 is on Friday, November 29. This major sales day is always the day after Thanksgiving, so make sure to mark your calendar. You may also want to check the brands at least a week beforehand because some start their sales earlier.
